How we work

Care that meets your child where they are

Four principles guide every plan we write and every session we run. They’re short on purpose — the work itself is the long version.

Evidence-based

Science and data drive every treatment plan.

Family-centered

Parents are integral partners in every program.

Individualized

No two children — or plans — are the same.

Integrity

Honest, compassionate service in everything we do.

Therapy shaped around the child in front of us

No two kids on the spectrum read from the same script — so neither do we. Sessions are built from a current assessment, adjusted from real session data, and tuned to the way your child actually shows up in the room.

How we help

Raising a child with autism is not a one-person job.

You shouldn’t have to choose between rigorous clinical practice and a team that actually answers your questions. We aim to be both.

Our services help your child:

  • Build language and communication skills
  • Develop social and play skills, while forming friendships
  • Learn daily living and self-help skills
  • Increase flexibility and tolerance for new routines and experiences
  • Decrease behaviors that interfere with growth and learning
  • Prepare for and succeed in school

Mostly, our services foster confidence and resiliency — and empower your child to lead a happy, fulfilling life.

Imagine this

Confident, prepared, and in control

Smooth IEP meetings

No more surprises when you walk into your child’s IEP meeting. I’ll teach you how to help set the agenda and get answers to your concerns.

Smart IEP goals

Your child is unique and your family is, too. I’ll show you how to pick IEP goals that are perfect for your child and your family’s needs.

Simple IEP strategies

Your child’s IEP should pass the “stranger test.” I’ll teach you what this means and how to get there — collaboratively with your IEP team.

What we can do together

  • 01

    Find the root

IEP struggles need more than a band-aid fix. We dig deeper to understand the real issues.

  • 02

    Negotiate

There’s more than one way to provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). We’ll find a path — together.

  • 03

    Monitor

No more IEP details falling through the cracks. We help you track progress and hold teams accountable.

Parent Training

Why is parent training important?

Parenting a child with a behavioral disorder presents unique challenges. ABA training provides caregivers with the skills and tools to increase independence and reduce undesired behaviors — at home and at school.

Get started today →

Skill development

We equip caregivers with evidence-based ABA techniques to handle behavioral challenges, reduce stress, and improve daily interactions — giving families real tools that work.

ABA preparation

Many ABA providers have long waitlists. Our parent training course provides immediate support and foundational ABA knowledge so your family is ready when a provider becomes available. We can help transfer you to the provider of your choice for direct services.

Proven results

Parent training is not a replacement for full ABA services, but it can still produce significant results. By learning and implementing ABA principles, caregivers can reduce stress and improve their child’s daily life at home and school.

Start with a conversation

A 20-minute call is usually enough to know whether parent training is the right next step — and what it would actually look like for your week.

About us

About Good Steward ABA

A small practice doing focused work — clinical ABA, IEP guidance, parent coaching, and school consultation — for families and educators in Hampton Roads and across the country.

Our story

Built on compassion, driven by science

Good Steward grew out of a simple observation: families and schools rarely lack effort — they lack a partner who will sit with the hard parts long enough to see what’s actually going on. That’s the job we signed up for.

Our work spans the home, the classroom, and the IEP table because behavior doesn’t stop at any of those doorways. Consistency across the people in a child’s life is most of what makes ABA stick.

“There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child CAN do versus what they can’t.”

— Temple Grandin, at an autism seminar in Lexington, Kentucky

How we practice

Plans are written for one child at a time. We choose interventions because the data points to them, not because they’re what we ran last week. When something isn’t working, we say so — and change it.

Who we work with

Children and young adults across the spectrum, including those navigating co-occurring ODD or ADHD. We work alongside school teams, paediatricians, and other providers — collaboration is the default, not the exception.
